Student Comments
Each semester, I ask my students to complete midterm and end-of-semester evaluations, to provide students an opportunity to evaluate my teaching. The below comments are some of the feedback I have received on these evaluations, as well as the formal course evaluations.
KSS 5120 Spring 2014
"I believe the self-growth project helped me immensely over this semester. It has helped me complete other assignments faster and with higher quality, create more depth in my work, gain confidence in my thoughts and ideas so I speak my mind and share the person I a with people. I believe this project has been one of the most impactful of my college career and my only regret is that I did not have the opportunity to have a class like this as an undergraduate."
"The activities in this class have helped me grow as an individual in ways I didn't imagine before this class. I feel that this is one of those unique opportunities that I get to leave a class with more than just generic book information."
KSS 4326 Spring 2014
"One of my favorite teachers at the school. Class is never boring or dull. She presents the information in a very interesting way so that it's relatable to our lives. She makes it very easy to apply our knowledge to the concepts. Great professor, wish I could take her again."
"I love the interaction in this class. Most teachers lecture and you remember the things for the test. In this class we apply what you teach and talk about it. This helps me truly learn, not just remember things to pass a test. I like the way you teach the class."
"I really like the group activities that we perform. I enjoy the social aspect to class and believe it is beneficial for our learning experience."
"I enjoyed the class and it gave me something to look forward to daily."
KSS 3720 Spring 2014
"I like how you value our feedback, and always make sure everyone is caught up. It's nice to have a professor who cares!"
"Overall this class has been one of my favorites. I found all the information interesting and useful. I want to learn more about exercise psychology and I think I want to pursue it more."
"You always make yourself available for us, which is very helpful to students dealing with busy schedules."
"I like how this class is structured and you do a great job of helping us understand the material by your examples."
KSS 5001 Spring 2014
"As I've been applying for jobs I've noticed several exercise physiologist jobs that involve research and require a knowledge of stats and SPSS. If I ever find myself in one of these positions, I could definitely see myself coming back to this class and utilizing the notes I've taken throughout the semester. You've increased my appreciation for stats - thanks!"
"This course is not easy and you have to earn your grade. With the proper amount of time spent working on homework and studying, you will get so much more out of this class."
KSS 5001 Fall 2013
"I thought the class was taught well and I enjoyed it!"
"Although challenging, I am now able to analyze statistics in a way that helps me understand research done by professionals in my field."
"This class is incredibly useful for when I start to gather data for my thesis. I enjoyed the class and found it interesting."
EPSY 3331 Fall 2012
"This class was one of the most engaging classes and I feel like I got more out of this class than all my other classes combined. You exemplified everything you taught us, which most teachers don't. I feel a lot more prepared to go into the teaching world with the new skills I have learned. You are the kind of teacher I hope to be."
"This class has definitely helped me with my confidence as a future educator!"
"I really appreciated that my time never felt wasted in this class. Each lesson was useful, relevant, and purposeful."
EDSE 4310 Fall 2012
"[This class] helped renew my passion for teaching and why I chose this profession to begin with."
"A major benefit I received from this class were the realizations of myself as a teacher. By learning about the different theories, i gained more confidence in my future teaching style and I have the reasoning behind my methods."
"All the TWS assignments helped me make my ideas for my future classroom a reality."
"This class has helped me to become more comfortable as a teacher. I feel like I have a lot more tools in my toolbox now."
"I really liked the freedom of making my own lesson plans as they pertain to my major instead of a pre-determined topic."
EDSE 4310 Summer 2012
"I love the push to do better...I've challenged myself because of things done in this class and it has opened doors."
"Thank you for being fair, fun, and focused on the material. You definitely care about whether or not you are an effective teacher, and I do feel that I benefitted from this class."
"Thank you for being so patient."
"I loved this class because it was very interactive and the assignments were very relevant to 'real life'."
"Thank you for making this class so interesting!"
EDSE 4310 Spring 2012
"Out of all my education courses this semester, this one was the most demanding. However, I obtained an immense amount of knowledge and skills as a result, compared to my other classes. Overall, I really enjoyed my instructor's enthusiasm and clear signs of hard work put into teaching the class."
"Her class really cleared up questions about how and why teachers do certain things as I learned about the many theories. It has also taught me different techniques to make my class more interesting and approachable to my kids."
"This class has helped me very much with furthering my knowledge in becoming a teacher. I feel that this class was the most helpful out of all of my classes."
"I want to thank you for teaching me so much this semester, this class has proved to be very informative, yet very fun as well. Without this class, I don't feel like I would be as prepared to be a teacher."
EPSY 3331 Fall 2011
"I like how you take things we can relate to and apply it, like with How I Met Your Mother."
"I like when you have us think about what we will do in our classroom, it helps put things into perspective."
"Her activities are fitting for the lesson and help me understand the concepts better."
Additional unsolicited feedback from students:
"Thanks for all your help throughout the semester and for being a great teacher! I really enjoyed the class and everything that we did throughout the semester."
"I still remember all of the best practices associated with the many different theories. Whenever I'm observing classroom teachers I'm checking to make sure they're doing things like using appropriate scaffolding or capturing students' attention before modeling how to do something." - From a former student, a year after taking EPSY 3331 from me
